Joanne Kantner draws on 25 years of experience in higher education to provide guidance and solutions for education reform in the rapidly changing higher education area. Kantner has provided technical assistance to numerous federal, state and local initiatives and policies including Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Legislation advisory team, US Department of Education’s NAAL-PIAAC Quantitative Literacy & Numeracy Expert Panel, Promoting College and Career-Ready Standards in Adult Basic Education, and National Reporting System Numeracy metric projects, Illinois’ strategic plans for Workforce Development Education and Training, Board of Higher Education Strategic Plan and Community College Board-Adult Education.  Prior to founding MJKA, Kantner was Vice President of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer of Kishwaukee College, a community college committed to providing social mobility through open access to postsecondary education and training.   

Kantner earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Rockford University and masters and doctoral degrees in Adult and Higher Education from Northern Illinois University, with a focus on adult mathematics education.  Dr. Kantner is an accomplished researcher with numerous professional publications, presentations and editorial boards.  In addition, she has been recognized for contributions and service to her profession; for example the Service Award for Adult Education Dissertation Award from Northern Illinois University, and Award of Excellence for Teaching from Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees.  She has served on several professional boards including the International Adults Learning Mathematics Forum, American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, as well as boards of several state and local arts organizations in Illinois.
